About Us

Our Story

Kalenauskas Farm was founded in 1914 by John C. and Josephine Kalenauskas as a dairy farm. In their passing, John A. and his wife Marie Kalenauskas took over the farm operation and continued as a dairy farm. In 1986, the family decided to sell off their dairy herd and transition their focus into hay and livestock production. The farm is currently operated by the third and fourth generations of the family, with the assistance of 4 little boys who make up the fifth generation.

Throughout the years, Karen developed her niche within the farm and established Karen's Lambs which focuses on producing lambs, goats, and wool products. Karen's Lambs features some of the wool products produced on Kalenauskas Farm at local fiber festivals and farmer's markets across Connecticut.

​​Today, we operate on over 400 acres of land producing corn silage and hay for our livestock feed. In addition, we operate a shavings mill, which allows us to provide wood shavings for animal bedding to farms in the area.

In 2020, we began Kalenauskas Farm Market, opening our first retail store selling products that are 100% produced by members of the Kalenauskas Farm Family. The store features beef and lamb from the farm as well as fiber products, honey, maple syrup, soap, cutting boards, and many other seasonal goods.

Over the years, many things have changed at Kalenauskas Family Farms - new family members, new tractors, new faces, new ventures. However, one thing has remained the same. When you drive up Sand Bank Road, you will see the white silo that greets you, and a family built on a history of dedication, stands right next to it welcoming you to our farm.
